COMSA, in consortium with the Brazilian infrastructure firm Marquise, has been awarded the contract to complete the Belém integrated transport system, known as BRT Metropolitan. The project, valued at just over 100 million euros, will improve the mobility of the inhabitants of the state of Pará, in Brazil, while at the same time will boost sustainable transport in the region.
The contract includes the construction of a 10.8 km long bus lane in the median of the BR-316 access road to the city of Belém. The works also include the construction of 39 bus stops with passenger access control, a 125-metre-long, 24.7-metre-wide viaduct with a mixed structure and 11 pedestrian walkways.
It is also planned the completion of two interconnection terminals with other bus lines. The Marituba and Ananindeua stations will thus have 2 accesses each, via subways, from the BRT lane.
Finally, the project includes the construction of the Operational Control Centre, incorporating the implementation and commissioning of the management system for the entire BRT network.
The works are completed with the replacement of affected services and the renovation of the BR-316 including the addition of two cycle lanes, drainage, street lighting, signposting and landscaping.
Presence in Brazil
Following the completion of the extension works on Line 4 of the Sao Paulo metro in the summer, COMSA is consolidating its presence in the infrastructure and mobility sector in Brazil. In addition to the Belém works, the company is currently carrying out the construction of the bridge over the Araguaia River on the BR-080 highway and the duplication of the BR-101 highway between the cities of Rio Largo, São Miguel dos Campos and Teotônio Vilela, among other projects.
